The preparation is the job. By the time tile goes on, everything underneath is already right.

The blue tile was the last stage. Whether it lasts was decided by what happened to the pool underneath it first.
The original pool had a plaster interior, a pale blue 4-inch ceramic waterline band, curved ceramic step treads and a dated pebble coping edge. Hollow areas had spread through the interior and there was significant rust under the skimmer.
The old coping, step treads and waterline tile came off. The rust was cut out and treated and the hollow sections removed, then the waterline area was re-rendered so there was a sound, flat base to tile onto.
The interior was finished in roughly 2-1/4 inch blue ceramic. Sandstone about an inch and a quarter thick replaced the dated coping and pulled the interior, the steps and the surrounds into one piece of work.

A curved pool needs the stone to follow the pool. The alternative is forcing the pool to suit standard straight pieces, and it always shows.
The sandstone was measured and cut around every change of direction, the curved entry and the raised sections — including the vertical faces directly under the coping, which is where most jobs give up and use a filler.
Stone like this has to be handled carefully. Every cut, return and junction was worked out before anything was bedded, so the coping follows the pool without awkward gaps or rushed transitions.
These details say more about a finished pool than any wide shot does.

I rent my Studio City property on Airbnb and the pool is a big reason guests book. But I cant be there every week to manage it myself so I needed someone I could genuinely trust. Pool Care LA has been coming weekly for about eight months now. The pool is consistantly clean, chemistry is always balanced and they send me a message if anything looks off. We have three kids between six and eleven and our pool is basically the center of our summers. When they started coming out of the pool with red skin and irritated eyes, I assumed it was just chlorine sensitivity. I mentioned it to our pool service and they said the chemistry was fine. The irritation kept happening every time they swam. After the second summer of dealing with this, I decided to get a second opinion. I called Pool Care LA and asked them to do a full water analysis without explaining the problem first. I just wanted to see what they found independently. The technician tested everything: chlorine, pH, alkalinity, cyanuric acid, calcium hardness, and several factors my previous company had never once mentioned. The results were clear. My cyanuric acid was extremely high, which was neutralizing the chlorine in the water. My pH was also elevated. So while the pool technically had chlorine in it, the chemistry was so far out of balance that it wasn't sanitizing properly. My kids were reacting to water that wasn't as clean as it appeared. Pool Care LA created a plan to fix it. The correction took a few weeks and involved a partial water replacement and a full chemistry reset. They also deep cleaned the Hayward filter which had significant buildup. The difference was immediate. The kids have been swimming without any issues for over a year. I genuinely can't believe I dealt with that problem for two full summers when it was completely fixable. If your family has similar issues and you keep being told the chemistry is fine, get a second opinion.Read in fullCollapse

Light in our pool is original to the last remodel, probably early 2000s. We're just off Ventura near Tujunga and honestly never thought about it until it went out one evening. 😅 Didn't realize how much we use the pool after dark until it was suddenly pitch black out there. Called and they came out the same week, figured out the issue quickly, replaced the bulb and gasket and checked the niche seal.
