Leak detection and repair
Find the leak first. Repair it properly.
Two jobs, and they happen in that order. Detection is charged at our hourly rate with a one-hour minimum. Go on to the repair and that visit becomes part of the job.

Get the pool ready and testing gets faster
- Fill the pool to its normal operating level before anyone arrives.
- Take the leaves and debris out of the water.
- Get the water clear enough to inspect — green water hides everything.
- Make sure the pump and equipment can be run during the testing.
- Mention any separate solar pump or water feature on the property.
- Ask for a written report if a leak is located.
Repair the source before you renovate. A leak under a new interior undermines it from behind and you find out in year two — so shell repairs come before tiling, before resurfacing and before painting.
What we repair is the concrete: shell cracks and structural joints, skimmer-to-shell separation, return penetrations, light niches and hydrostatic-valve areas. That is structural repair work, and it is priced against what the testing actually found rather than guessed at beforehand.

Where pools leak, and what gets tested
A pool can have more than one leak. Finding the first does not mean the testing is finished, and on an older pool it usually is not.

The bucket test, before you call anyone
It costs nothing, takes a day, and a surprising number of suspected leaks turn out to be a hot week.
- Fill to the normal level. Then stand a bucket on a stable pool step where it will not be knocked.
- Match the two levels. Fill the bucket so the water inside sits level with the pool water outside it.
- Mark both. Inside the bucket and outside on the pool wall, so there is nothing to remember later.
- Leave it 24 hours. Undisturbed, and in calm weather where you can — rain, wind and splash-out all skew it.
- Compare the drops. Evaporation takes both equally. A leak takes only the pool.
- Turn the autofill off. For the ruler version too, or the test tells you nothing at all.

I started noticing that I had to add water to my pool way more then usual. Wasnt sure if it was just evaporation or something else so I called Pool Care LA. They came out and did a thorough visual inspection, checked the equipment pad, the plumbing connections, the skimmer area and the pool shell. They found a crack in the skimmer housing thats was causing the water loss. They were straightforward about the repair cost and timeline. Swimming pool leak questions
Can you find the leak, or only repair it?
Both. We locate it, document what was found, and repair it. Call (818) 740-6099 first, and the testing decides what the repair is quoted against.
Why do you want a written leak report?
A written record of what was tested and what was found gives the quote a reliable starting point. It also separates shell repair from plumbing and equipment work, which are different jobs at different prices.
Can I use dye to look for a leak?
Dye helps around a suspected crack or fitting when the water is completely still, but it is a narrow tool. It confirms a place you already suspect; it does not replace proper testing.
Can a pool have more than one leak?
Yes, and older pools often do — particularly where the shell, the equipment and the plumbing are all the same age. Finding one source is not a reason to stop testing.
Should I test for leaks before renovating?
Whenever a leak is suspected, yes. Finding and fixing it before resurfacing, painting or tiling protects the new work. Paying for a finish over an unresolved leak means paying for it twice.
Does it drop faster with the pump on or off?
More loss with the pump running usually points at the pressure side: return lines, fittings, the equipment pad or a separate solar circuit. Loss with the equipment switched off points at the shell or a fitting — the light niche, the skimmer throat, the main drain or the hydrostatic valve.
