The streets climb into the Santa Monica Mountains and the pools are cut into the hillside. Chlorine reads fine in the morning and zero by evening
Valley heat and unbalanced conditioner. Cyanuric acid shields chlorine from ultraviolet light: too little and August burns the day's chlorine off by dinner, too much and it is present but chemically locked. A strip cannot tell you which — cyanuric acid is on our panel every visit.
The heater or salt cell quits before the pool is warm
Flow, not the appliance. Both refuse to fire below a minimum flow rate, and a long hillside run leaves far less headroom to lose. A loaded cartridge filter is enough to trip the switch.
The pool drinks water and nobody can say why
On a slope, evaporation and a leak look identical. A weeping line puts water into the hillside where nothing shows, and the autofill covers for it for months while salt and conditioner readings drift from constant dilution.
