Because a testimonial typed onto our own website by us proves nothing, and everybody knows it. When there are reviews you can read on a platform we do not control, this page will link to them. Until then, we would rather give you a real customer to call.

How do I check a pool company before hiring it?

Four things, in order: search the California contractor licence at cslb.ca.gov; ask for the written visit checklist; ask exactly what the price includes, especially chemicals and filter cleans; and ask for a reference on your own street. A company that hesitates on any of the four has told you something. The pricing page has the questions written out.

We have three kids between six and eleven and our pool is basically the center of our summers. When they started coming out of the pool with red skin and irritated eyes, I assumed it was just chlorine sensitivity. I mentioned it to our pool service and they said the chemistry was fine. The irritation kept happening every time they swam. After the second summer of dealing with this, I decided to get a second opinion. I called Pool Care LA and asked them to do a full water analysis without explaining the problem first. I just wanted to see what they found independently. The technician tested everything: chlorine, pH, alkalinity, cyanuric acid, calcium hardness, and several factors my previous company had never once mentioned. The results were clear. My cyanuric acid was extremely high, which was neutralizing the chlorine in the water. My pH was also elevated. So while the pool technically had chlorine in it, the chemistry was so far out of balance that it wasn't sanitizing properly. My kids were reacting to water that wasn't as clean as it appeared. For about four years I thought I was saving money by managing my own pool. I watched the YouTube videos, bought a decent test kit, and had a weekly routine. It was fine for the first couple of years. But somewhere along the way things started going sideways. I was constantly chasing chemistry numbers that wouldn't stabilize. My salt cell was running on high output all the time. The glass tile on our pool was custom installed in 2016 during a full backyard renovation. We're just off Carmelita, up in the flats, and the tile was one of the things we were most proud of when the project finished. So when the calcium started building up along the waterline I knew I needed someone who actually understood that type of tile, not just a general pool service. Pool Care LA came out and assessed before starting anything. The technician explained the difference between calcium carbonate deposits, which are softer and easier to treat, and calcium silicate, which hardens over time and requires a different approach. Mine had been building for years and was the harder type. They worked carefully along the full waterline using the right method for glass tile. The grout was checked throughout and came out in good shape. The result was genuinely better than I expected. They also told me my calcium hardness had been running high for a while and that getting that number into a proper range would slow the buildup significantly going forward. Called around and these guys came out fast, looked at everything and gave me a honest quote before touching anything. They pulled the cracked tiles, matched the color pretty close to the originals and grouted everything clean. Didnt take more than half a day and you really cant tell where the old ones were. Our craftsman on Arroyo was built in 1971 and the pool tile is completely original to the house. 😬 I was fully expecting to be told I needed a full tile replacement. The guys who came out said the tile itself was actually in solid shape underneath all the scale and staining and that it was worth cleaning before considering anything else. They cleaned the entire waterline and what came up underneath was genuinely great. 😍 Saved me from a replacement I didn't need. We put the pool in when we did the full backyard renovation in 2010. Custom glass mosaic tile, built to spec. We're off Zelzah near Balboa Park and the backyard was a real project. About a year ago I started noticing a white hazy film developing across sections of the tile and then found a few tiles that shifted when I touched them. I didn't know if it was a tile issue, a chemistry issue or something with the surface underneath. Pool Care LA came out and the tech spent time diagnosing before mentioning price. He identified the film as efflorescence, which happens when moisture moves through the substrate and carries minerals to the surface. The degraded grout in certain sections was letting moisture get behind the tiles and weakening the bond. Then he explained something I had not been told in fourteen years of owning this pool. With a saltwater system, calcium hardness in the water has to stay within a specific range. Water that runs too low becomes chemically aggressive and attacks grout and tile adhesive over time. My calcium had been running low for a long time and no one had ever flagged it. They treated the efflorescence, reattached the loose tiles, resealed the grout in the affected areas and corrected the water chemistry. Walked me through how to monitor it going forward. The tile looks the way it should again. But the bigger thing was finally understanding what caused it and how to prevent it recurring. That context was worth more than the repair itself.Read in full

Light in our pool is original to the last remodel, probably early 2000s. We're just off Ventura near Tujunga and honestly never thought about it until it went out one evening. 😅 Didn't realize how much we use the pool after dark until it was suddenly pitch black out there. Called and they came out the same week, figured out the issue quickly, replaced the bulb and gasket and checked the niche seal. We built the house in 2007 and the pool lights are original to the build. We're on Saltair, just off San Vicente. One of the two fixtures had been flickering on and off for almost a year and I kept not dealing with it. Pool Care LA came out for a regular service visit and I asked about switching to LED. The tech walked me through the options without pushing anything. Different fixture types, color-changing versus fixed white, what the cost difference was, what the actual energy savings would look like over time. I went with color-changing LED for both niches. Installation was clean. They checked the wiring and the transformer as part of the job. Walked me through the controls before leaving. The pool at night looks completely different now. We're off Lost Hills, near the Commons. Pool is from 2001 and has three underwater lights. Two kept flickering and going dim and I thought it was just the bulbs. Turns out the transformer was overloaded and two fixtures had water getting into the housing. They replaced both fixtures, fixed the load issue and now all three run perfectly. Wish I wouldnt have waited two years to deal with it, wasnt expensive at all.Read in full

We're over near Fallbrook, just off the 101. Pool is from 1996 and the light fixture is original to the build. The thing kept tripping the GFCI breaker and I was just walking out and resetting it without really thinking about why. After a few months of that I finally called. The tech told me right away that a GFCI tripping consistently is not something to keep resetting, it's telling you there is a fault somewhere. He came out and pulled the fixture. The gasket had failed and water was getting into the housing. He pointed out the staining around the niche that I had been chalking up to normal pool splashing. They replaced the fixture with a new LED unit that fit the existing niche, checked the wiring back to the panel and confirmed the GFCI was working correctly. Light hasn't tripped once since. Turns out the breaker was doing exactly what it was supposed to do the whole time. Glad I stopped ignoring it when I did.Read in full

House is on Kenneth Road, built in 1978, pool original to the property. As far as I know the plaster had never been done since the house was built. By the time I called it was in rough shape. Worn through in several spots, rough patches on the steps you could feel underfoot, staining that nothing touched, and chemistry that my pool service could never stabilize no matter what they added. Pool Care LA came out and explained the chemistry issue immediately. A porous, degraded plaster surface affects water balance in ways that are almost impossible to compensate for with chemicals alone. That connection had never been explained to me by anyone. They checked the shell structurally before quoting anything. The shell was sound. Equipment was aging but functional. The plaster was the problem. Replastering took a few days. They handled prep, application and walked me through the startup protocol. Daily brushing for two weeks while the surface cures, chemistry will fluctuate during that period, some cloudiness early on is normal. Having that context upfront made the whole process much less stressful. They came back twice during curing without me having to ask. The finished pool looks like it belongs to a different house. Water is genuinely clean and clear. My pool service commented that the chemistry holds now in a way it never did before. Should have done it years ago.Read in full

We bought the property four years ago. Pool was put in around 2001 by whoever owned it before us, pebble finish that had probably never been touched since. We're up off Bellagio. The surface had faded heavily and the mineral staining made the water look murky even when the chemistry was dialed in. A company we used early on looked at it and said we needed a full renovation, quoted us accordingly. Pool Care LA came out and did an actual assessment. They checked the shell condition, the existing surface, the tile, the equipment, the deck. Their read was that the shell was structurally solid and the equipment was aging but still serviceable. What was needed was a surface replacement and some targeted tile work. Not a tear-down. That distinction saved us a meaningful amount of money. They removed the old pebble finish and inspected the substrate underneath, which came back in good condition. We went with a quartz aggregate finish that works with the stone on the house. During removal they found a section of waterline tile where the adhesive behind the tiles had failed. That got handled as part of the same project. The startup phase after a new surface requires real attention and they managed it carefully. Daily brushing for the first two weeks, chemistry monitoring as the surface cured, several check-in visits. They responded quickly when I had questions. The finished pool is something we actually use every day now. The quartz finish gives the water a clarity the old faded pebble never had. If you've been told you need a full renovation on an older pool, get a second opinion before committing. The real scope of work might be considerably smaller than you've been quoted.Read in full
