From enclosed spa to open lounging area
The wall between pool and spa came out so the enclosed area could become an open recess connected to the pool. That changed both how it looks and how it gets used — a walled spa nobody heats is dead space.
The existing interior was repaired before resurfacing. The old coping and waterline came off and were replaced with travertine and a stronger blue tile, and the pool itself was finished in smooth pebble.
This is a clear example of what resurfacing achieves when the interior, the coping, the waterline, the steps and the seating are treated as one job instead of five separate ones with five separate set-ups.

Can an abandoned green pool be resurfaced rather than replaced?
This one was. The existing interior was repaired first, the coping and waterline came off, and the pool was finished in smooth pebble. The condition it arrives in decides how much preparation there is, not whether resurfacing is possible.
Why remove the wall between the pool and the spa?
Because a walled spa nobody heats is dead space. Taking the wall out turned the enclosed corner into an open lounging recess connected to the pool, without changing the footprint of the pool itself.
