Quartz finish to an ultra-smooth Skye pebble interior
A pool whose quartz interior had gone chalky and was crumbling under a thumbnail. Taken back to bare concrete, repaired, waterproofed and resurfaced in an ultra-smooth pebble.

Built around 2003, this pool had problems in the interior, the coping, the waterline, the structure and the ground around it. Resurfacing it properly meant dealing with all of that first, which is why the number could not be fixed before the surface came off.
The old quartz felt rough underfoot and crumbled under light pressure. Covering an unstable surface only delays the same job, so it was removed completely, and rust-affected and hollow areas were cut back to sound concrete.
The interior was finished in an ultra-smooth pebble — a modern rendered surface rather than another version of the one that had just failed.
New waterline tile went into the pool and the spa, with extra rows along the steps, the spa seats and the shallow shelf. Those defined edges are not decoration: they tell you where the floor changes when you are in the water.

More than a new interior

How long a resurfacing lasts is decided by the repairs and the preparation underneath it, not by the finish you can see.
Leaking wall repaired and waterproofed. A leak along the long wall was running into the neighboring property and softening the lawn. It was found and dealt with, and the shell waterproofed, before any new interior went on.
Waterline tiles and underwater edge details renewed. Some of the old tile was still attached, but loose and aging sections had already started to go, so the pool and spa bands were replaced with extra rows along the steps.
Hollow brick coping replaced with mango sandstone. The old coping was unstable and hollow. It came off, the surrounding concrete was levelled, and sandstone was laid across the whole pool area.
Bamboo screening completed the backyard. New screening dealt with privacy along the boundary, so the pool, the stone and the planting read as one renewed yard rather than three separate jobs.
A leak covered by a new surface is a leak with a new surface over it.

I was having irritation in my eyes every time I swam and didn't know what was wrong with the water. 😟 Pool Care LA came out, tested everything, and explained that my pH was way off. We were hosting my daughter's graduation party and needed the pool looking perfect. 🎓 It hadn't been professionally cleaned in a while and there was some algae on the walls and the water was off-color. Called Pool Care LA about two weeks before the party. They came right out, brushed the walls, vacuumed the floor, balanced all the chemicals, cleaned the skimmer baskets and checked the equipment. They came back a few days before the party to confirm everything looked good. 🌊 The pool was absolutely perfect for the party and every guest noticed. My husband always took care of our pool. He passed away two years ago and suddenly I had this pool that I had no idea how to manage. I'm 74 years old and not very technical. I was honestly afraid to call a pool company because you hear stories about people being taken advantage of when they don't know what questions to ask. My neighbor recommended Pool Care LA and I called with some nervousness. The gentleman who came out was patient and kind from the moment he arrived. He didn't rush. He tested the water, explained what each number meant in terms I could understand, and showed me where the skimmer basket was and how to empty it between visits if needed. He checked the pump and filter, older Jandy equipment, and was honest that they were aging but still functioning fine. He didn't push me to replace anything. He told me clearly what weekly service would cost and exactly what it included. No upselling, no scare tactics. They come every week without fail. My neighbor sometimes tells me she saw the truck in my driveway when I was out. If anything is off they leave me a note and follow up with a phone call to make sure I understand what it means and what to do about it. Last summer a valve started leaking. They called me, explained it simply, told me the cost, and fixed it on the next visit. I didn't have to figure out anything on my own. At my age and in my situation, finding a service company that is trustworthy and treats you with genuine respect is worth more than I can really put into words. Our craftsman on Arroyo was built in 1971 and the pool tile is completely original to the house. 😬 I was fully expecting to be told I needed a full tile replacement. The guys who came out said the tile itself was actually in solid shape underneath all the scale and staining and that it was worth cleaning before considering anything else. They cleaned the entire waterline and what came up underneath was genuinely great. 😍 Saved me from a replacement I didn't need. Came home from a two-week vacation and our pool was basically green. The previous company told us we needed to drain it, which sounded crazy. What this quartz renovation demonstrates
Can a badly deteriorated quartz interior be resurfaced?
Yes, but when it is crumbling or delaminating it has to come off back to the concrete. The shell is then repaired, waterproofed where needed, prepared and resurfaced. Going over it is what produces a second failure in four years.
Should the waterline tile be replaced at the same time?
If the existing tile is loose, stained or simply not going to outlast the new interior, yes. Doing both together means opening the edge once instead of twice, and the second time you would be cutting next to a finished surface.
Will a new surface fix a leak on its own?
No. A surface is not a repair. Suspected leak paths and structural weaknesses get investigated and fixed before waterproofing and resurfacing — otherwise you have paid for a finish that is already being undermined.
