A concrete pool cracked badly enough that it would no longer hold water. Every crack chased out and repaired, the shell waterproofed, then a fully tiled interior over pool and spa.

From a pool that would not hold water
We first looked at this pool in 2022. The owner was holding off, and we said what we thought and left it. Nothing about the shell was going to get better on its own, and nothing about it was going to get dramatically worse in one season either.
Three years later they called back. The coping had moved further, the existing cracks had opened, new ones had appeared, and rust was bleeding through the shell. By then the pool would not hold its level for a week.
Every visible crack was chased out, treated and repaired. Pipe penetrations were sealed, unstable sections were cut back to sound concrete, and the whole shell was waterproofed before tiling. Rust bleeding through is not a stain: it is reinforcement expanding inside the concrete, and it does not stop until the steel is dealt with.
The finished job puts structural repair, waterproofing and a fully tiled interior into one project, with the coping and surrounds renewed at the same time. On a shell already left three years, doing it in one pass was the cheaper answer.
A leaking pool is a structural question, not a surface one.

We went away for spring break for ten days and came home to a completely green pool. I was stressed because my kids were already asking to swim. Pool Care LA came out the next morning, assessed the water, started the algae treatment, shocked it, brushed the walls and floor, vacuumed out all the debris and backwashed the filter. They came back two days later to check progress and make a second chemical adjustment. By day four the water was clear and safe. I bought my house in Encino last spring and the listing mentioned a pool, but the home inspector gave it only a very basic look. 🏠 That wasn't enough information for me to really know what I was inheriting. I called Pool Care LA before we officially closed and asked if they could do a proper inspection during my final walkthrough. They were flexible about the timing and came right out. The inspection was thorough. They tested the water chemistry, which was way off. 😬 They checked the pump and heard bearing noise suggesting it wasn't far from failing. The filter had an unreliable pressure gauge. The skimmer basket was cracked and partially missing. On the positive side, the pool shell was in decent shape and the plaster was intact. They gave me a clear picture with cost ranges for each item so I could factor it into negotiations with the seller. After closing, they handled everything. Replaced the filter, deep cleaned the pool, corrected the chemistry over a few weeks, and replaced the skimmer basket. About three months later the pump failed and we replaced it with a Pentair variable speed unit, which has noticeably reduced my electricity costs. 💡 Starting with accurate information from people who actually know what they're looking at made the whole experience manageable. We put the pool in when we did the full backyard renovation in 2010. Custom glass mosaic tile, built to spec. We're off Zelzah near Balboa Park and the backyard was a real project. About a year ago I started noticing a white hazy film developing across sections of the tile and then found a few tiles that shifted when I touched them. I didn't know if it was a tile issue, a chemistry issue or something with the surface underneath. Pool Care LA came out and the tech spent time diagnosing before mentioning price. He identified the film as efflorescence, which happens when moisture moves through the substrate and carries minerals to the surface. The degraded grout in certain sections was letting moisture get behind the tiles and weakening the bond. Then he explained something I had not been told in fourteen years of owning this pool. With a saltwater system, calcium hardness in the water has to stay within a specific range. Water that runs too low becomes chemically aggressive and attacks grout and tile adhesive over time. My calcium had been running low for a long time and no one had ever flagged it. They treated the efflorescence, reattached the loose tiles, resealed the grout in the affected areas and corrected the water chemistry. Walked me through how to monitor it going forward. The tile looks the way it should again. But the bigger thing was finally understanding what caused it and how to prevent it recurring.
