The Pool Care Los Angeles

Pool tiling · Glendale

Rust in the shell, then a fully tiled interior

A concrete pool whose reinforcement had started to corrode. The steel was treated and the section rebuilt before a single tile went on.

A new surface over corroding steel buys about four years.

Why our work stands out

Rust gets cut out, not covered

Corroding reinforcement expands to several times its own volume and cracks concrete from the inside. Tiling over that hides the problem for a season and then the tile starts moving with it.

So the old surface came off, the affected steel was exposed and treated, and the section was re-rendered and waterproofed before any tile was set.

We tile concrete pools across the Foothills and the east Valley — Burbank, La Cañada Flintridge, La Crescenta, Montrose, Pasadena, Eagle Rock and Studio City.

Corroded steel repaired, then the whole shell tiled

The old surface came off so the structure could be judged, the rust-affected section was rebuilt, and only then did the tile go on.

What went into the job

  • Old interior surface removed back to the shell
  • Corroded reinforcement exposed and treated
  • Affected section rebuilt and re-rendered
  • Shell repaired and waterproofed
  • Pool tiled throughout, steps included
  • Mosaic band set into the finished interior

The result

A fully tiled interior with defined steps and a mosaic band — a permanent surface rather than another consumable one over a moving shell.

The biggest difference is communication. Our old pool guy would disappear for days. Emily in the office always responds and keeps us updated if there is an issue.

The pump at one of my properties started making a terrible grinding noise and tenants were complaining. 🔧 Called Pool Care LA, they diagnosed it fast, worn bearings, had the parts on hand and fixed it the same week. Professional, efficient, no drama. 👍 Will definitely use them for all my properties going forward.Read in full

I'm retired and on a fixed income, so when my pool pump started making noise I was worried about what it would cost. 😰 Pool Care LA was upfront with me from the start. The technician came out, took the pump apart, cleaned the impeller which had debris jammed in it, and inspected the motor. He gave me an honest assessment - the pump was old but could keep running if we addressed the issue now, or I could replace it and avoid future problems. He laid out both options with real numbers and let me decide without any pressure. 🙏 I went with the repair for now and the pump has been quiet ever since. Really appreciated the honesty.Read in full

I manage four residential properties in Glendale and the surrounding area, each with a pool. Keeping them all maintained sounds straightforward until your dealing with vendors who dont communicate, dont show up consistantly, or quietly defer maintenance to avoid the conversation about extra costs. I went through two pool companies over about three years. The first was cheap but unreliable. The second was more professional on the surface but issues never seemed to get addressed unless I pushed. I interviewed Pool Care LA along with two other companies before making a decision. What stood out was that they proactively asked about my reporting requirements as a property manager. Most pool service companies are setup for homeowners. Pool Care LA understood immediately that my situation was different, multiple properties, tenant-occupied homes, authorization requirements for repairs, documentation needs. They came out and assessed all four properties before starting work. At two of them they found issues my previous company had been sitting on, a filter needing media replacement and a pump with developing bearing wear. Both were flagged clearly with options and pricing. Since switching the experience has been what I always needed. Consistent schedule, service summaries after every visit, repairs communicated and quoted before being performed. The pools are in good condition. Tenant complaints about pool quality have essentially disappeared. I've recommended Pool Care LA to two other property managers I know in the area. For anyone managing multiple homes who needs a pool company that operates with real accountability, these are the people to call.Read in full

House is on Kenneth Road, built in 1978, pool original to the property. As far as I know the plaster had never been done since the house was built. By the time I called it was in rough shape. Worn through in several spots, rough patches on the steps you could feel underfoot, staining that nothing touched, and chemistry that my pool service could never stabilize no matter what they added. Pool Care LA came out and explained the chemistry issue immediately. A porous, degraded plaster surface affects water balance in ways that are almost impossible to compensate for with chemicals alone. That connection had never been explained to me by anyone. They checked the shell structurally before quoting anything. The shell was sound. Equipment was aging but functional. The plaster was the problem. Replastering took a few days. They handled prep, application and walked me through the startup protocol. Daily brushing for two weeks while the surface cures, chemistry will fluctuate during that period, some cloudiness early on is normal. Having that context upfront made the whole process much less stressful. They came back twice during curing without me having to ask. The finished pool looks like it belongs to a different house. Water is genuinely clean and clear. My pool service commented that the chemistry holds now in a way it never did before. Should have done it years ago.Read in full

Came home from a two-week vacation and our pool was basically green. The previous company told us we needed to drain it, which sounded crazy. Pool Care LA came out, tested everything, explained what was happening and started the cleanup. Took a little time but now the water looks better than it has in years.Read in full

We had another pool company for almost five years and slowly the service got worse. They would say they came but the pool was always dirty. Jake from Pool Care LA has been completely different. He actually checks the equipment and lets us know if something needs attention.Read in full

What this Glendale renovation demonstrates

Can you tile over rust in a concrete pool?

No. Corroding reinforcement expands to several times its own volume and cracks concrete from the inside, so a new surface over it buys about four years. The steel has to be exposed, treated and the section rebuilt first.

Why go to tile instead of another rendered surface?

Tile is a permanent interior rather than a consumable one. Once the shell has been opened up and repaired properly, the extra cost is in the finish, not in a second round of preparation later.

Does the whole surface have to come off?

Enough of it has to come off that the structure can be judged. On this pool the old interior was removed so the affected areas could be found, cut back to sound material and rebuilt before tiling.
