An abandoned Beverly Hills pool, rebuilt and fully tiled
A concrete pool and spa left standing empty for years. Cracks chased out and repaired, the shell waterproofed, then a dark gray mosaic interior with bluestone coping.

From a standing ruin to a finish that lasts
This pool had been empty and deteriorating for years. Cracks had spread through the shell, tile was detaching along the waterline, and sections of coping had lifted where roots had got underneath.
The old finish came off so the structure could be judged properly. Cracks were opened up, treated and sealed, unstable areas cut back to sound material, and the whole shell waterproofed before any new surface went near it.
The pool and spa were finished in a dark gray mosaic with bluestone coping. The close views of the deep end, the steps and the spa are there deliberately: with no water over it, the set-out is either right or obvious.
The owners were not living at the property, so we managed the four-day fill ourselves — including coming back late on the Sunday to shut the water off and check the pool.
The tile lines, the corners and the deep end are all here, not just the one flattering angle.

When you have a pool that cost more to build than most people's homes, you're not looking for the cheapest service option. 💎 You need someone who understands what they're working with. My pool has a Jandy automation system that controls everything from my phone, lights, water features, heater, pump speed, salt cell output. It's a beautiful setup when it's running correctly. The company I had before Pool Care LA simply didn't understand it. They'd show up, net the surface, leave and bill me. Persistent water clarity issues nobody could explain. Mineral deposits building up on the water features that nobody seemed to notice. 🤦 I found Pool Care LA through a neighbor. The technician actually knew what he was looking at when he saw the Jandy system. He connected to the automation panel, reviewed the settings and immediately found that several parameters had been left at factory defaults that were not appropriate for my pool's size and equipment configuration. That alone explained the chemistry fluctuations I had been dealing with for months. He ran a full water analysis, serviced the salt cell, and identified the deposits on the water features as calcium scale buildup that needed a specific treatment. Documented every finding and sent me a written summary by email. 📋 The ongoing service has been exceptional. The pool looks perfect, consistently. 🏊 They flag anything unusual before it becomes a problem. When a water feature pump made a strange sound, they identified it, ordered the part and replaced it before I even registered it as a real issue. The glass tile on our pool was custom installed in 2016 during a full backyard renovation. We're just off Carmelita, up in the flats, and the tile was one of the things we were most proud of when the project finished. So when the calcium started building up along the waterline I knew I needed someone who actually understood that type of tile, not just a general pool service. Pool Care LA came out and assessed before starting anything. The technician explained the difference between calcium carbonate deposits, which are softer and easier to treat, and calcium silicate, which hardens over time and requires a different approach. Mine had been building for years and was the harder type. They worked carefully along the full waterline using the right method for glass tile. The grout was checked throughout and came out in good shape. The result was genuinely better than I expected. They also told me my calcium hardness had been running high for a while and that getting that number into a proper range would slow the buildup significantly going forward. My regular pool service had never once connected water chemistry to what was happening on the tile. That conversation alone was worth the call.Read in fullCollapse

What this Beverly Hills renovation demonstrates
Is a pool that has stood empty for years worth saving?
Usually yes, but only once the old finish is off and the structure can be judged. On this shell the cracks were opened up, treated and sealed and the whole thing waterproofed — after that a permanent interior made sense.
Why put repair, waterproofing, coping and tile into one job?
Because the alternative is four visits over six years, each one cutting next to something already finished. On a shell this old doing it once is usually the cheaper route, not the expensive one.
Does a fully tiled pool have to be filled in one go?
Yes. Stopping partway leaves a line on new grout that does not come out. This fill took four days and was watched to the end, including a late Sunday visit to shut the water off.
