Hard water, not dirty water
A pool in 91011 is fighting two things, and neither is dirt. One falls out of the trees at the edge of the Angeles National Forest. The other arrives dissolved in the water you top the pool up with, and never leaves.
Lots here are large, wooded and stepped, and the pools on them are rarely just pools: a spa on the same pad, a water feature, an automation panel and often a salt system — four things to hold in balance instead of one.
Calcium is the story of this town. New plaster is held at 200–400 ppm hardness on purpose, a hot week takes inches out of the pool, and what evaporates is water, not calcium. The white line on the tile is the receipt.

Why does my pool get a white line on the tile so quickly here?
The water replacing evaporation is already hard, and evaporation removes water while leaving calcium behind. Nothing is broken — it is arithmetic. The fix is reading hardness weekly and brushing the tile before the deposit bonds.
Will an acid wash take the calcium off my tile?
No. An acid wash is a plaster treatment: the pool is drained and a thin layer of surface removed to lift staining underneath. Waterline calcium on tile is a different problem, and preventing it costs far less than dealing with it later.
Is a salt system a mistake with water this hard?
Not a mistake, but not set-and-forget either. A cell in the foothills scales faster than the same cell in the valley, and a scaled cell under-produces long before it fails outright.
Pool, spa and fountain on one pad — one service or three?
One visit, but not one body of water. A spa has its own chemistry, heater and failure modes, and a feature adds valves checked whether or not they ran. It is why quotes here sit above a plain rectangle of the same volume.
How much does pool service cost in La Cañada Flintridge?
